  Great Room

Challenge: Warm up a two-story great room with additional seating and design details

Solution: A new sectional fills the space for maximum seating. Pair of upholstered ottomans work for "feet up" television viewing or additional seating for entertaining. Window treatments enhance and soften the space.

Great Room:

Challenge: A wall design to reflect the owner's European elegant style while keeping the three sided fireplace and incorporating a large screen television.

Solution:

Separate and contrast the fireplace and entertainment cabinet. Fireplace surround is faux-painted to resmble limestone slabs (real deal would involve structural reinforcement). Partially built in cabinet, stained to match the floor, looks like a piece of furniture and connects to the rest of the room.

  Family Room:

Challenge: Change the fireplace to match the scale of the two story room and create a strong focal point.

Solution:  Replace the fireplace surround.  The new design features a taller and deeper mantle and more substantial side columns.  Painting the trim on the firebox lessens its impact in the room.

Dining Room:

Challenge:  Treat a dining room window that is not centered on the wall, while creating architectural interest and detail.

Solution:  Build a bookcase around the window, using the entire wall as a focal point.  Match the plantation shutter color to minimize the off-center placement of the window.
